A Look Back

Your community centre is owned and managed by the community, on behalf of the community of the Letterkenny Municipal District. This focal point in the heart of the town centre, has provided this community with its social, educational, recreational and sporting needs since that pioneering committee purchased the site in 1974 and officially opened the building on 15th July 1983.

Since the early seventies, that commitment continued to provide and promote the needs of this community, for abled, disabled, youth and senior citizens, multi cultural, ethnic groups.

Money was donated in many ways – interest free loans, ANCO, donations of blocks, area collections, functions etc. The hall became a substitute for the old town hall – the Devlin – where performances from Christy Moore, Spinners, Pantos and many more entertained the community.

The committee back then provided facilities such as Roller discos, Riverside club for old time dancing and non alcoholic discos. It was used for the Folk Festivals, National Ballet, Feis, Legal Aid, Examination Centre, and available to many clubs and societies.

Moving Forward

Down the years the needs changed as the population increased. Fitness, indoor football, health education, dancing and sports demanded alterations to the fabric of the building.

This demand developed into the provision of the third generation pitch, FIFA accredited all weather facility opened this year.
